Friday Group

Friday Group 

FRS’s renowned Friday Group programme is where all of your work comes together. You will be matched with a helper, someone who has recently celebrated their B’nei Mitzvah themselves, and they will work with you to learn your Torah portion, blessings, and the other elements of a BM service.

Everyone in Friday Group is given the opportunity to take part in a leyning course, where you will learn the basics of how chanting your portion works before you are given your recording. Friday Group begins about a year before your BM date and when you have completed Friday Group we look forward to welcoming you back as a helper for someone else!

Friday Group starts at 5.10pm at FRS and you are welcome to come early after school for a snack and to relax in our youth room. 

After the Helper/Pupil pairs have finished their work at 6.25pm, they join Kabbalat Shabbat, the Friday evening service, at 6.30pm. This is considered a required part of the programme.

Leyning Course

Approximately three months before the date of their B'nei Mitzvah, pupils join our Song Leader and B'nei Mitzvah Co-ordinator, Rhiannon Humphreys, for a four-week leyning course, during which they learn how to chant their portion.  The leyning course takes place on Zoom.
