FRS Fund 2025

This year, we are launching the FRS Fund—a campaign aimed at securing additional funding for specific projects. This fund seeks to support key elements of FRS that hold significant value to our members and to undertake necessary improvements to our building, thereby fostering a thriving and growing community. We aim to achieve these goals through various funding options. You are invited to contribute to the Annual Fund campaign, which will directly impact our community.

Thank you for your most valued and continued support.

Projects

AV Upgrade: Connecting Our Community Enhance our community's streaming experience! With an additional high-quality camera, more wireless microphone packs, and the right soft- ware and kit, we can welcome more musicians and leaders, helping every community member to participate in our services.   £1,500

Kindergarten Reconfiguration: Support the FRS 'Voices of Israel' Initiative, and enable us to secure high-quality, knowledgeable and passionate speakers and educators to host engaging workshops, seminars, and cultural events that foster understanding and connection with Israel.   £5,000

Voices of Israel: Support the FRS 'Voices of Israel' Initiative, and enable us to secure high-quality, knowledgeable and passionate speakers and educators to host engaging workshops, seminars, and cultural events that foster understanding and connection with Israel.   £6,000

Ritual

New High Holy Day Machzorim: To ensure there are sufficient machzorim (prayer books) for the High Holy Days in 2025, an additional 300 sets are required. The two volumes of ‘Days of Awe’ cost £42 per set. Ten years of work went into their publication, featuring modern language, helpful transliterations, and explanatory notes.  £42/set

Tallit Stand & Box for Kippot: Having dedicated storage for ritual items such as tallitot and kippot not only helps preserve their physical state but also shows respect for their spiritual value. A new tallit stand is needed for the Ohel entrance, as well as a matching box for kippot.   £200

Visiting Clergy

FRS benefitted from the creativity that Rabbi Greg brought to us during summer 2024. He launched a weekly Talmud class which has continued to grow. We aspire to host innovative and inspiring clergy for temporary visits so that we can learn from new voices. We seek support for accommodation, living expenses and flights.   £6,500

Festivals & Music

Elevating our Music: Our Choir Director and Pianist enhance our music through their musicianship, dynamism, and sensitivity. Both bring exceptional skills, however, due to budget constraints, we can only engage them during the High Holy Days. Ideally, we aspire to have them work with the choir at other festivals and year-round.   £150 per session

Festivals: FRS always thinks big for festivals, whether it’s a dynamic community Seder or a climbing wall and ice cream van for Shavuot. The ability to be ambitious depends on having sufficient budget. To ensure that everyone can participate, we need to subsidise these festivals and provide bursaries to support participation.  £5,000

Building

Enhanced Acoustic Treatment for Ohel: Acoustic panels will reduce background noise and echo, creating a clearer audio experience for listeners.  By improving sound clarity, the panels enhance participation in discussions or services. They also create a more immersive experience for musical events, allowing every note to be heard with precision.   £3,000

Children’s Hand Rail: Our youngest children struggle with the main and back staircases due to the need for a lower hand rail. This becomes critical during emergencies, essential for their safety, and vital for an inclusive environment.   £4.000

Heat Protection for the Kindergarten

The Kindergarten roof terrace gets very hot in summer. We are looking to add UV / ‘supertint’ protection to the shading in order to help maintain a cooler environment for the children.   £7,200

Youth & Education

Specialist Youth Worker Provision: Hiring specialist youth workers would enhance our inclusion services for the growing number of children with additional needs. £1,500 covers one year of provision per child. Youth workers are specially trained to provide individualised support, and inclusive activities that
cater to diverse needs.   £1,500

Soundproof Screens: Soundproof screens for use in the Ohel would allow for simultaneous activities without interference. This would enhance our teaching capabilities in shared spaces by minimising noise and reducing distractions and disruptions.   £8,000

International Trip Subsidy Fund:

An International Trip Subsidy Fund would enable us, once again, to offer international trips for teens, making them accessible to all. A youth trip is being planned for April 2026 to Prague and Říčany, in the Czech Republic; the home of FRS's Czech Scroll.   £5,000

Security

Improved Door Defence Capability: The doors and internal windows in our building were designed with inclusion and accessibility in mind. Some upgrades are needed in order to provide additional functionality from a security perspective.   £8,000

Stab Vests: 3 stab vests are needed in different sizes to ensure the safety of our community volunteers and volunteer Team Leaders. Right fit is essential to maximise protection, so we need to have enough of each size for every shift.    £800 per vest

Medical Kits & Training:

We need first aid kits and medical supplies for immediate response to injuries, which must be regularly refreshed. Application of a tourniquet, for example, could save a life of someone who otherwise needs to wait for paramedics to arrive on site.   £1,400

Chesed

Mileage: To reimburse driving expenses for Chesed volunteers who assist community members with activities such as transportation to hospital appointments, and collection of shopping or prescription medications.   £200

Homeless Shelter: FRS runs a Christmas and Winter Homeless Shelter providing dinner, bed and breakfast for ~17 homeless individuals in Barnet. From 6pm to 7am, guests receive a hot meal, social interaction, board games, and newspapers. Funds are required to cover cleaning, caretaking, food, and the provision of activities.   £500
