Rabbi Eleanor Davis
For the first decades of my life, it was all music: I began my career as a flute and piano teacher, and even married a singer. That brought me to London, where a stopgap job in theatre admin and customer service became over a decade in Covent Garden, expanding my horizons among extraordinary people in an extraordinary place.
While music of all varieties remains a thread throughout my life, it gradually became more woven with Judaism, especially as an adult education teacher and through Rosh Chodesh groups. I particularly enjoyed several years with a sideline in work for Reform Judaism, including co-creating its Essentials conversion curriculum with Rabbi Debbie Young-Somers and writing the Eits Chinuch (Jewish education) newsletter.
Being made redundant from my day-job led me to Leo Baeck College, where I had the privilege of five years of in-depth learning: in the classroom with LBC’s expert faculty and in communities around the UK and Ireland. I’ve also dived into everything from making creative LBC shacharit services to setting up a Progressive online Seder that grew year-on-year and four years of teaching the Rosh Chodesh group at ELELS.
I’m so excited now to begin to root myself in one very special community and become part of the FRS team. I’m especially looking forward to getting to know you through learning that connects Torah with real life, through Progressive Jewish ritual, through all things lunar and Jewish – and in all the moments that make up Jewish life at FRS.
