Tea in the Garden
We have opened our garden under the auspices of the National Garden Scheme and more recently for FRS. This year, we not only raised money for FRS’s new building but shared the takings with “the Eighth Rung” project which raises money to employ a specialist worker at Homeless Action in Barnet. For the second time all our takings were matched by a generous donor. In addition to the delicious teas, there were many jars of homemade marmalade and jam for sale.
The garden was designed to have three-season interest, no straight lines, and colourful leaves as well as colourful flowers. On previous Open Days we have usually been blessed with sunshine, but not this time: we had heavy rain showers with some sunny intervals… hence the visitors had to dash undercover when the rain fell. However, when inside, they could linger over their tea, enjoying yet again the wonderful range of donated homemade cakes and scones. There was such a buzz of happy chatter! Then, as soon as they could , our visitors ventured out to look at the freshly washed plants.
This year, the dahlias and the roses were particularly magnificent, and the damp summer encouraged the exuberance of everything.
To encourage us to open the garden again, and to benefit FRS again, we need your help. You don’t have to know a thing about gardening - we promise; we just need your offers of help. Your friends are also most welcome, either as helpers or visitors. Please email frs@frs.org.uk
“Such a lovely local fixture” commented one of our supporters.
