Spirituality Group
Over the last two years, our ongoing Covid situation had a direct impact on FRS’s longstanding Spirituality Group work. After more than 25 years of unbroken meetings in person, the pandemic forced us onto Zoom. This proved a mixed blessing - it enabled there to be continuity of contact, which had a value when participants shared their experiences and concerns and we were able to see what resources, practical and spiritual, we could draw upon in these unprecedented times.
But ‘glass life’ is no substitute for real meeting and in time I decided to change the focus of the work to make it open each time to anyone who wished to join (rather than a formal signed-up-for programme) - and to focus each session not only on ourselves and our spiritual life but on a specific Jewish poem which could inform our conversations. We started again in person in the autumn, but as the next Covid wave arrived we switched back to Zoom. This is our new reality, with all its uncertainties – and the spiritual challenge the group faces is of course one shared by so many inside and outside of FRS.
