Inclusivity

This year work has been focused on preparing to enter our new physical space, and on ensuring that when people are participating in FRS life they are able to be fully present and welcomed regardless of their identity. A group of members is beginning to convene some important conversations about gender inclusivity. These will be an opportunity for members to share stories, ask questions and learn together so that we are better able to understand each other’s experiences.

In order to ensure that the physical building space is accessible to all, we held meetings at the beginning of the design phase to hear from wheelchair users and members with different access needs as the plans were formulated. This included looking at floor materials, handle and sign heights, and access to the bimah.

Training for all new volunteers at FRS will ensure that we are implementing the Board of Deputies Commission on Racial Inclusivity’s recommendations, and plans are ongoing for further training and learning within the community once our training partner returns from maternity leave.
